Nagpur police nab 5 accused within 4 hours in robbery of Jhansi youth
Nagpur police arrested five accused within four hours after they robbed and assaulted a youth visiting from Jhansi.
A youth from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh was robbed in the Gittikhadan police station area of Nagpur district. According to police, two friends from the city, along with others, had planned the robbery after learning the youth was carrying lakhs of rupees.
Police said the accused threatened and assaulted the Jhansi youth on the way, snatching his mobile phone and some cash. The accused also allegedly tried to snatch his ATM card in an attempt to withdraw money from his account. While this was happening in the Borgaon area, the youth tricked the accused by telling them he was having an asthma attack.
He then stopped at a nearby medical store on the pretext of buying medicine. Seeing a crowd of people there, he began shouting loudly for help. Fearing they would be caught, the accused fled the spot. On receiving information about the commotion, Gittikhadan police reached the scene and found one of the accused's vehicles at the spot.
Police registered a case on the complaint of Shoaib Javed Khan (27), a resident of Jhansi. According to police, Shoaib works as an AC repair technician and also trades in fruits.
Using technical surveillance and secret information, police arrested all five accused within just 4 hours. Those arrested are Tarendra alias Bittu Sanat Thakur (23) of Mohan Nagar, Khalasi Line; Nikhil Tarachand Khakre (23) of Nara village; Ratan Rajendra Bongiri (25) of Gaddigodam; Shami alias Sameer Salim Shaikh (19) of Gorewada Road; and Travesh Deepak Kamble (20) of Jhingabai Takli.
Police seized a total of about Rs 3 lakh worth of property from the accused, including the vehicle used in the crime, the stolen mobile phone and cash. Given the seriousness of the case, police have registered separate charges of robbery and assault against the accused and begun further legal proceedings.
