Nagpur: Police have arrested a young man who was roaming with a knife in the Kalamna police station area. Police said the accused is Omprakash alias Dhokoo Suresh Nishad. A knife was seized from him. While checking his criminal record and questioning him, police noticed his involvement in an e-rickshaw theft case. Police then recovered the stolen e-rickshaw, worth about Rs 50,000, from a place the accused showed them.

According to police, they received information on October 3 that a young man was roaming with a knife near Kalamna railway station. A police team reached the spot immediately and detained Omprakash alias Dhokoo Nishad. When they searched him, a knife was found on him.

Police then began questioning the accused. Police said the questioning led to the solving of an e-rickshaw theft.

According to police, on the night of September 18, Yogesh Masurkar was travelling to Bharatwada in his e-rickshaw. Near Chikhli Gate, he parked the e-rickshaw by the roadside to relieve himself and walked away for a short while. At that very moment, an unknown thief drove off with the e-rickshaw.

During the investigation, police learnt of the accused's involvement in the theft. When they questioned him, he confessed to stealing the e-rickshaw, police said.

Police investigation has revealed another detail. Police said the accused used the e-rickshaw to carry stolen goods. After unloading the stolen goods at night, he would hide the e-rickshaw at different places.

Police seized the stolen e-rickshaw in the presence of panch witnesses from the place the accused showed them. The e-rickshaw is worth about Rs 50,000. Kalamna police are now taking further legal action in the case.
