Nagpur: Minor gives birth after rape on promise of marriage; woman raped on job pretext, son threatened

Police in Kalamna and Hingna have registered cases over the rape of a 17-year-old girl and of a married woman who was threatened with her son's murder.

Nagpur: A minor and a married woman have been raped under pressure of a promise of marriage, a lure of a job and a threat to kill a son. In Kalamna, the exploitation of a 17-year-old girl came to light after she became pregnant and gave birth to a baby girl. In Hingna, a married woman has alleged she was raped after being lured with a job. In both cases, police have registered cases and begun investigations.

Birth of child reveals the crime

In the Kalamna police station area, the 17-year-old girl was friends with a 19-year-old youth, and the two gradually developed a relationship. According to the minor's complaint, the youth forced a physical relationship on her on the promise of marriage, and she became pregnant. After the pregnancy came to light, the accused married her at a religious place on March 25. On September 13, the minor gave birth to a baby girl at a government hospital. During treatment, doctors learnt she was a minor and informed the police. Police contacted the girl, but she did not come forward to file a complaint. Kalamna police finally registered a case under the POCSO Act and for rape on the complaint of PSI Nilesh Barwe. Police are now investigating.

Job promised, son's life threatened

A serious case of broken trust has also surfaced in the Hingna police station area. The woman, who was living at her parents' home after a dispute with her husband, had taken her ailing son to the government hospital in Saoner for treatment. There she met Lalit Vanjari, 42, a resident of Kalmeshwar. Lalit assured her of a job and took her to the room of his acquaintance, Shrikant Nimbarte, in Dongargaon. There he threatened to kill her son and forced a physical relationship on her. Lalit also threatened to kill her along with her son if she spoke out. Despite the threat, the survivor went to Hingna police station and filed a complaint. Police have registered a case against the accused for rape and criminal intimidation and begun an investigation.
