Nagpur Metro will keep its trains running for longer than usual on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Maha Metro has announced that services will operate from 5 am until midnight on the day, which marks both Dhammachakra Pravartan Din and Dussehra (Vijayadashami).

On ordinary days the first train leaves at 6 am, so commuters will get an extra hour in the morning. The late-night extension is meant for those who return home after the day's events. At all four terminal stations, Khapri, Automotive Square, Prajapati Nagar and Lokmanya Nagar, the first train will depart at 5 am and the last one at midnight.

The special schedule has been drawn up because two of the city's biggest occasions fall together. Lakhs of Buddhist followers travel to Deekshabhoomi for Dhammachakra Pravartan Din, coming from different parts of Maharashtra, from other states and from abroad. On Dussehra, Ravan Dahan is held at several grounds across the city, and large numbers of residents step out to watch it.

Such crowds put heavy strain on autorickshaws, buses and private vehicles, and traffic jams are common. Maha Metro says the longer hours will give people a dependable way to travel early in the morning and late at night, and will spare residents some of the congestion. It is hoped that more people choosing the metro over their own vehicles will also lighten the load on the main roads.

The metro administration has urged passengers to make use of the extra hours. To avoid long queues at ticket counters during the festivals, it has asked them to buy digital tickets or use the Maha Card. For safety, additional security personnel and guides are being posted at all major stations.

Passengers have also been advised to check the running hours and their journey details at their metro station, or in Maha Metro's official notice, before they leave home, so that they are not inconvenienced.
