Nagpur: Kalamna police have arrested a man who was allegedly found roaming with a knife near Kalamna railway station. Police claim to have solved an e-rickshaw theft case after his arrest.

The accused has been identified as Omprakash alias Dhoku Suresh Nishad. Police seized a knife from him. During questioning and a check of his criminal record, police allegedly learnt of his involvement in the e-rickshaw theft.

According to police, the theft took place on the night of September 18. The complainant, Yogesh Masurkar, was driving his e-rickshaw towards Bharatwada. On reaching near Chikhli Gate, he parked the vehicle by the roadside and went some distance away for a short while to relieve himself. Meanwhile, an unidentified person allegedly drove off with the e-rickshaw.

The case remained under investigation until October 3. That day, Kalamna police received information that a youth carrying a knife was loitering in suspicious circumstances on the premises of Kalamna railway station. A police team reached the spot and caught Nishad. Police said the knife was allegedly recovered from him.

During questioning, police allegedly linked him to the September 18 e-rickshaw theft. Investigators claim Nishad used the stolen e-rickshaw to carry stolen goods. After disposing of the goods, he would hide the vehicle at different places.

Following his alleged disclosure, police recovered the stolen e-rickshaw in the presence of panch witnesses, and the theft case was thus solved.

Police have begun further legal action against Nishad. They are also examining whether his name figures in other thefts and criminal activities.
