Nagpur: Man held with 20 g MD powder; police probe supplier in Hingna
Sakkardara police arrested a Hingna resident with 20 grams of MD powder and are tracing the person who allegedly supplied it.
Sakkardara police in Nagpur have arrested a man with 20 grams of MD powder as part of an ongoing drive against the drug trade. The accused has been identified as Kunal Mhaiskar, a resident of Hinganghat. Police are now probing the source of the contraband and searching for the man who allegedly supplied the MD powder to him.
According to police, a Sakkardara police team was on patrol in the area late at night. Behind the Dattatray Nagar fire brigade office, near the wall of Sakkardara Lake Garden, they noticed a man in suspicious circumstances.
The man allegedly began running when he saw the police team approaching. Police personnel chased him and caught him a short distance away.
Police said the man was searched in the presence of independent witnesses. During the search, police allegedly recovered 20 grams of MD powder from him.
Besides the suspected MD powder, police also seized a mobile phone and cash. The total value of the seized items has been estimated at about Rs 72,000.
Police said the accused allegedly kept the MD powder with the intention of earning money illegally. The preliminary investigation has allegedly revealed that he brought the MD powder to Nagpur from Hinganghat.
Sakkardara police have registered a case against Mhaiskar under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested him.
Police are now trying to find out where the contraband came from. They are trying to identify and trace the man who allegedly gave the MD powder to the accused.
The investigation into the wider drug supply network and the source of the contraband is continuing.
