Nagpur: Five held within three hours for robbing man in Gittikhadan area

Police in Nagpur's Gittikhadan area arrested five accused within three hours of a robbery in which a 27-year-old man was beaten and robbed of his phone and cash.

Police in the Gittikhadan police station area of Nagpur solved a robbery case within just three hours of the incident being reported, arresting five accused. The accused allegedly first put up a young man at a hotel near the railway station, then took him to Borgaon Chowk at night, where they beat him up along with their associates. They then forcibly snatched his mobile phone and cash before fleeing.

The incident is said to have taken place around 11 pm on the night of September 24. The victim, Shoaib Khan, is a 27-year-old resident of Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh. Shoaib had come to Nagpur for work. He does AC repair work and is also involved in the fruit export-import business.

According to police, Shoaib already knew the accused Tarendra alias Bittu Thakur and Nikhil Khakre. The two knew that Shoaib was coming to Nagpur. They allegedly had him put up at a hotel near the railway station and later took him to near the Dinshaw factory at Borgaon Chowk, in front of a Buddhist temple (Bauddha Vihar).

Police said the two then called in three more associates, and together they beat up Shoaib. During this, an iPhone and cash were allegedly forcibly snatched from him. When Shoaib raised an alarm, all the accused fled the spot.

As soon as the complaint was received, a team from Gittikhadan police station swung into action and began investigating. Based on technical clues and other information, police acted and caught all five accused within just three hours.

According to police, they recovered Rs 47,000 in cash, the complainant's mobile phone, the mobile phones of three of the accused, and two motorcycles used in the crime. The total value of the recovered items is estimated at around Rs 3 lakh.

Police have arrested Tarendra alias Bittu Thakur, Nikhil Khakre, Rajat Bongiri, Sameer Shaikh and Travesh Kamble in the case. Police are now questioning the accused to establish other aspects linked to the crime.
