Nagpur: Fight breaks out during drinking session, two flee with friend's bike and phone
A drinking session among acquaintances near Nagpur's Nanda lake turned violent, with two men beating a friend and fleeing with his bike, cash and phone.
A minor argument during a drinking session near the Nanda lake area in Nagpur turned into a robbery on Sunday morning. Three acquaintances were drinking together when a dispute broke out over something and escalated into a scuffle. Two of them then beat up the third, snatched cash and a mobile phone from his pocket, and fled on his bike.
Police said the victim is Satish Mankar, 40, a resident of Dahegaon Rangari. The incident took place around 7.30 am on Sunday. Mankar was already acquainted with Praful alias Matdar Kishor Raut, 31, of Indira Pragati Nagar, Koradi, and Ashish Omkar Wasnik, 31, of Siddharth Nagar, Mahadula, Koradi. The three were drinking together when the argument escalated and the two accused began assaulting Mankar. Police allege the two then took 2,000 rupees in cash and a mobile phone from Mankar's pocket and fled on his bike.
After the assault and robbery, Mankar directly informed Kishor Chaudhary, the sarpanch of Dahegaon Rangari, about the incident. The sarpanch immediately alerted Police Inspector Sandeep Buwa of Khaparkheda police station. On receiving the information, the police team swung into action. A team led by night officer Ashish Kohale, comprising havildar Sandeep Sagane and constables Shekhar Wankhede and Badal Giri, immediately began searching for the accused.
During the investigation, police got a lead that accused Praful Raut was near the bus stop at Koradi temple gate, talking to people about selling the stolen bike and mobile phone. Based on this information, police laid a trap there and caught Praful. During questioning, he named his accomplice Ashish Wasnik, following which police arrested him as well. Police recovered the stolen cash, mobile phone and bike from the two.
Police said accused Praful Raut already has a criminal record, with earlier theft cases registered against him at Khaparkheda and Koradi police stations. Police have registered a case against both accused and begun further investigation. The Khaparkheda police are being praised for swiftly catching the accused and recovering all the stolen items within an hour of receiving information about the incident.
