Nagpur family duped of Rs 10 lakh over promised AIIMS medical seat
A Nagpur family says a man cheated them of Rs 10 lakh with a fake promise of an AIIMS MBBS seat for their daughter
A family in Nagpur's Kalamna area has alleged that they were cheated of Rs 10 lakh after a man promised to get their daughter admission to a medical college. Police said the accused had assured the family he would secure her an MBBS seat at AIIMS or another well-known medical college.
According to police, the daughter of Dinesh Thakre, a resident of Kalamna, had appeared for the NEET-UG examination. On August 1 last year, a man named Ashish Gosavi, a resident of Durga Nagar in Bhartawada, allegedly contacted the Thakre family and claimed he could get the girl admission to a good medical institute.
It is alleged that Gosavi assured the family he would secure her an MBBS seat at AIIMS or other well-known medical colleges. He is said to have taken money from Thakre in instalments on the pretext of admission-related expenses, college fees and other charges. Believing the accused was genuine, the family allegedly paid him a total of Rs 10 lakh. Police said Ashish Gosavi also showed the family fake documents to convince them the admission was genuine.
Despite paying this amount, when the daughter was not admitted to any medical college, the family began seeking answers from Gosavi. According to the complaint, the accused kept stalling every time with a new excuse, claiming the admission process was still underway.
Time passed, but neither did the admission happen nor did the family get their money back. The family then suspected they had been cheated and approached the Kalamna police station.
Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against Ashish Gosavi under charges including cheating. Police are now investigating the alleged fake documents and the accounting of the Rs 10 lakh transaction.
