A family living in the Kalamna area of Nagpur lost Rs 10 lakh while trying to secure an MBBS admission for their daughter. Police said a man won the family's trust by claiming he could get the girl a seat in reputed medical colleges, including AIIMS, and allegedly prepared fake documents to back up the claim. When the daughter's admission did not come through even after the money was paid, the family realised they had been cheated. Following a complaint, Kalamna police station has registered a case against the accused and begun an investigation.

According to police, Dinesh Thakre, a resident of Kalamna, has a daughter who had appeared for the NEET-UG exam. Last year, from August 1, Ashish Gosavi, a resident of Durga Nagar, Bharatwada, got in touch with the Thakre family. He allegedly claimed he could get the student an MBBS admission in a reputed medical institute, and allegedly trapped the family by promising a seat at AIIMS and other major medical colleges.

Police said the accused began taking money from Thakre in instalments at different times, citing the admission process, college fees and other expenses. Hoping for their daughter's admission, the family trusted him and paid a total of Rs 10 lakh.

When no admission came through anywhere, the family began seeking answers from Ashish. He allegedly kept stalling them, at times citing an ongoing admission process and at other times making other excuses. Despite a long wait, neither did the admission happen nor was the money returned.

The Thakre family eventually suspected they had been defrauded. Dinesh Thakre filed a complaint at Kalamna police station. Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against accused Ashish Gosavi under sections related to fraud and other applicable charges. Police are now investigating the allegedly fake documents prepared by the accused and the Rs 10 lakh transaction.
