The State Election Commission has supplied new 'S-3' type electronic voting machines to Nagpur district for the upcoming local body elections. A district-level training programme on the working of these machines and on the 'EMS' software system created to manage them was also held at Niyojan Bhavan.

The Commission has procured the S-3 machines from ECIL. The company has developed the EMS software system to make the management and registration of the machines, and other related work, easier.

Nagpur district has received 3,000 control units (CUs), 1,000 ballot units (BUs) and 1,000 SMMs. Officials and employees present at the training were guided on the use of the machine by the Commission's Under Secretary Shailendra Varade, Section Officer Sameer Rane and EVM coordinator Gaurav Badodekar.

During the training, the warehouse where EVMs are stored was also inspected. Those present were also briefed on how the new voting machines work, how to use the EMS system and the essential technical procedures related to the election.

Engineers explained the operation of the machines and the use of the software in detail through demonstrations. Under Secretary Shailendra Varade also addressed the doubts of the officials and employees present. The training laid special emphasis on the technical details of the machines, their management and hands-on operation, so that officials and employees can be ready to use the new machines and software system effectively in the coming elections.

The training was organised on the directions of District Magistrate and District Election Officer Kumar Ashirwad. Dr Rachna Indurkar and Tehsildar Shraddha Bagrao had been appointed nodal officers for organising the training. Naib Tehsildars Vinod Thorve and Chandrakant Padole handled coordination at the programme.
