Nagpur declares dry days on Oct 21, 22, 23 and 27 for Legislative Council election

Liquor sales will be barred across Nagpur district for the biennial Maharashtra Legislative Council election, with voting on October 23 and counting on October 27.

The Nagpur district administration has declared dry days on October 21, 22, 23 and 27 in view of the biennial election to the Maharashtra Legislative Council. Liquor sales will be prohibited on these days.

According to an order issued by the administration on October 16, all licensed liquor shops across Nagpur district will remain closed from 4 pm on October 21 to 4 pm on October 23. The restriction will thus last 48 hours and will remain in force until polling ends.

Voting for the Nagpur Division Legislative Council constituency will take place on October 23. Polling will begin at 8 am and continue until 4 pm.

Liquor sales will also not be permitted on October 27. Votes are to be counted that day, and the restriction will remain in force until counting is complete.

The order applies to all authorised liquor establishments. These include country liquor shops, retail shops selling foreign liquor, beer and wine shops, and other licensed premises in related categories.

The administration has warned that strict action will be taken against licence holders who violate the order, under the applicable laws and the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

According to the administration, the restrictions have been imposed so that the entire election process can be completed in a free, fair and peaceful atmosphere.
