A two-day crackdown by Nagpur police crime branch on theft, liquor, gambling, drugs, arms and tobacco led to over 25 arrests and Rs 13.37 lakh in seizures.

The crime branch of Nagpur police carried out a major operation at various locations across the city on September 22 and 23, acting on cases related to theft, vehicle theft, illegal liquor, gambling, drugs, weapons and tobacco. Teams led by DCP Deepak Agrawal ran several operations over the two days, in which a total of 30 cases came to light and more than 25 accused were arrested. Property worth around Rs 13.37 lakh was seized during the entire operation.

Acting on five cases related to theft and vehicle theft, police recovered six stolen vehicles. These vehicles are estimated to be worth around Rs 9.30 lakh. Police said the action has tightened the noose on suspects involved in theft and burglary.

The crime branch also acted against illegal liquor at 11 locations, seizing liquor worth around Rs 27,570. Legal action has been initiated against people accused of illegally selling and possessing liquor. In addition, four cases were registered under Section 68 against those accused of providing space for illegal liquor consumption, in which property worth Rs 43,650 was seized.

The crime branch also raided gambling dens in the city. Two actions were taken under the gambling law, in which cash and property worth around Rs 3.36 lakh were seized.

Under action against illegal weapons, one person was booked in a case for carrying a sword. The sword, valued at around Rs 500, was seized and a case was registered under the relevant sections.

One action was taken under the NDPS Act relating to narcotics, while three actions were taken under the COTPA Act for illegal sale of tobacco products. Police also took action against three hotel and lodge operators accused of using the OYO logo without permission, and cases have been registered in this matter.

According to police, the two-day drive saw a total of 30 cases surface, covering vehicle theft, burglary, illegal liquor, gambling, illegal weapons, narcotics, tobacco products and irregularities by hotel and lodge operators, with more than 25 accused arrested and property worth around Rs 13.37 lakh seized.

Crime branch officials said such action against crime and illegal activities in the city will continue, with special focus on theft, vehicle theft, illegal weapons, narcotics and other unlawful activities.
