Nagpur city police commissionerate's crime branch carried out simultaneous raids at 18 locations across the city between September 8 and 9 as part of a crackdown on crime and illegal activities. The operation named 21 accused, including some wanted persons. Police seized goods worth more than Rs 30.85 lakh across the various cases. The action was carried out by different teams under the supervision of crime branch DCP Deepak Agrawal.

During the operation, police cracked down simultaneously on gambling, illegal liquor, banned weapons, vehicle theft, spare parts of stolen vehicles, burglary and banned nylon manja. Two raids were particularly significant, one against nylon manja worth Rs 7.45 lakh and another involving seizure of vehicle spare parts worth around Rs 30 lakh.

The Social Security squad and the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) received a tip-off in the Yashodhara Nagar area, based on which they raided premises and seized banned mono kite nylon manja. They recovered 180 units of nylon manja valued at around Rs 5.40 lakh. Police also seized an e-rickshaw worth Rs 1.20 lakh, a Suzuki moped worth Rs 75,000 and a mobile phone worth around Rs 10,000. In all, goods worth Rs 7.45 lakh were recovered in this single raid. One accused was booked in the case, while Faizan Ansari has been named as a wanted accused.

The Anti-Vehicle Theft squad made a major haul in the Kapilnagar area as part of an "all out" operation. Police recovered around 30 to 40 engines of different vehicles and other spare parts, estimated to be worth around Rs 30 lakh. Police also seized a truck bearing registration number MH-40-BG-4937. Action was taken under Section 124 of the Maharashtra Police Act in this case.

The Anti-Vehicle Theft squad also cracked a case of a stolen travel bus in the Beltarodi police station area. Two accused were taken into custody during the investigation and a Tata minibus was recovered. Action was taken under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in this case. Meanwhile, Unit 6 nabbed a wanted accused in burglary cases in the Gittikhadan police station area, recovering silver jewellery worth around Rs 16,000 from him. Relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita were invoked in this case as well.

Five separate raids against gambling were carried out in the Ranapratap Nagar, Sakkardara, Sadar, Hudkeshwar and Nandanvan police station areas, in which a total of six accused were caught along with cash and gambling paraphernalia. Similarly, five raids against illegal liquor were conducted in police station areas including Sakkardara, Gittikhadan, Khaparkheda and Kapilnagar, recovering illegal liquor worth thousands of rupees. In the Wadi and Imamwada police station areas, a crime branch team caught two accused with illegal weapons, recovering large iron knives from both of them.

In addition, two separate actions were taken under Section 122(A) of the Maharashtra Police Act in the Lakadganj police station area, in which police took preventive action against people found involved in suspicious activities. Police officials said such action against crime and illegal activities in the city will continue.
