Nagpur Crime Branch busts alleged bike theft ring, recovers 11 engines from garage
Two men have been arrested and a third is absconding after police recovered 11 motorcycle engines and a petrol tank from a garage in Nagpur.
The Crime Branch has busted an alleged network of two-wheeler thieves in Nagpur. Police have arrested two people and recovered 11 motorcycle engines and a petrol tank from a garage.
The action was taken by Unit 6 of the Crime Branch, which was investigating a vehicle theft case registered at Kalamna police station. Police have identified a third accused in the case as Hritik, who is currently absconding.
The probe gathered pace when Unit 6 personnel received information during patrolling that a suspect wanted in vehicle theft cases was moving around in the Kapil Nagar police station area.
Acting on the tip, the Crime Branch detained Mayur Borkar, 22. According to police, Mayur confessed during questioning to his alleged involvement in the vehicle theft.
Further investigation revealed that Mayur and his associate Hritik allegedly stole two-wheelers from different parts of the city. The stolen motorcycles were allegedly dismantled and the parts sold to another associate, who runs a garage.
Based on information obtained during questioning, the Crime Branch raided the garage and recovered 11 motorcycle engines and a petrol tank.
Police then arrested Anand Agrawal, 38, a resident of Shantinagar. He is accused of being involved in disposing of the parts of stolen vehicles.
The two arrested accused have been handed over to Kalamna police for further legal action.
Police are now investigating the entire network. They are trying to establish from which police station areas the motorcycles were stolen and how many stolen vehicles were allegedly dismantled and sold as parts.
The search for the absconding accused, Hritik, is also continuing. Police also want to understand his role in the alleged theft and disposal of the vehicles.
With 11 engines found at once, investigators are also looking into whether the gang was part of a larger network of motorcycle theft and illegal sale of vehicle parts across Nagpur.
