The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is running a major drive in the district to recover dues, but has not met its set target so far. It is now preparing to get tough with defaulters. Eleven societies in Hudkeshwar, which falls under the Hanuman Nagar zone, have been given a stern warning.

The corporation has said that if the outstanding amount is not paid, the properties will be seized and also auctioned. The total dues on these properties stand at Rs 1.08 crore.

Property tax on several properties in Ward No. 76 of Hudkeshwar has been pending since 2013. For some properties, tax has not been paid since 2015 and 2016.

The Hanuman Nagar zone office had issued a public notice on these properties under Rules 39 and 40 of Chapter 8 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act. Property holders have now been given 15 days from the date the notice appears in the newspaper to pay the outstanding tax.

Green City Developers top the corporation's list with Rs 23.76 lakh due. They are followed by Anand Developers at Rs 16.58 lakh and Jai Sharda Co-operative Housing Society at Rs 14.94 lakh. Samrat Developers owe Rs 14.27 lakh in property tax. These four property holders alone account for Rs 69.56 lakh.

The NMC has warned that if the amount is not deposited within the stipulated time, action will follow under sub-rules (1) and (2) of Rule 45 of Chapter 8 of the Schedule to the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act, 1949, and the corporation's standing orders.

Under this action, the properties can be seized and, as per the rules, the process of selling them can begin. The corporation has appealed to all the societies, builders and property holders concerned to deposit the dues within the deadline.
