Nagpur: Civic body, police clear encroachments in Dharampeth zone
Nagpur civic and police teams removed footpath encroachments across Dharampeth zone and fined violators 1,000 rupees each.
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation and police jointly carried out a major anti-encroachment drive in the Dharampeth zone. The action was carried out simultaneously across several areas of the city, including Ravi Nagar, Campus, Futala, Vayusena Nagar, Katol Naka and the Gittikhadan police station area. Encroachments on the footpath along WCL Road were also removed.
The team removed tarpaulin sheds, shops and carts that had been set up on footpaths and roadsides without permission. Those found to have encroached were fined 1,000 rupees each. Following the drive, the footpaths and main roads concerned were cleared of encroachments.
The drive was carried out on the instructions of the municipal commissioner, the police commissioner and the traffic DCP. Dharampeth zone assistant commissioner Rajkumar Meshram led the operation, accompanied by the anti-encroachment squad, NDS officials and other staff.
The administration has made clear that stricter legal action will be taken against anyone who tries to encroach on main roads and footpaths again. Municipal officials said footpaths are meant for the safety of pedestrians and that no illegal occupation of them will be tolerated. Shopkeepers or vendors who repeat the offence could have all their goods seized and their licenses cancelled.
Traffic at major intersections in the area and on the Futala road is now moving smoothly after the encroachments were cleared, offering relief to residents and daily commuters. To prevent fresh encroachment, the Dharampeth zone's NDS team and local police will increase patrolling and keep continuous watch on the area. The civic body's aim is to keep all major roads in the city free of encroachment so people can move about safely and without obstruction.
