Nagpur: Boyfriend booked for abetting nurse's suicide, accused of threats
A 32-year-old nurse died by suicide in Nagpur's Dhantoli area; police have booked her boyfriend after her family alleged years of threats and disputes over marriage.
A 32-year-old nurse allegedly died by suicide on August 19 in the Dhantoli area of Nagpur. Her family has alleged that she took the step following a long-running dispute with her boyfriend. It is alleged that the two had been in a relationship since 2015, but the accused later refused to marry her.
The deceased's family has also alleged that the accused had threatened to post her private photos and videos on social media and send them to her relatives.
Based on a complaint by the woman's 50-year-old mother, a case has been registered against the accused, Sachin Dahat, at Dhantoli police station. Police have charged him with abetment of suicide.
According to the complaint, the woman and Dahat had been in a relationship for about a decade, during which Dahat was pursuing a PhD in Pune.
The complainant has alleged that Dahat had promised to marry her daughter, and it was on this understanding that the two entered into a physical relationship. However, it is alleged that the accused later backed out of the marriage, which led to repeated disputes between the two. The family says the relationship caused the woman continuous mental and physical distress.
The complaint also alleges that Dahat threatened to make the woman's private photos and videos public on social media and to send them to her relatives. According to the family, these threats and the ongoing disputes left the woman mentally distressed.
Police said the woman died by hanging on August 19 amid this dispute. Following the incident, Dhantoli police began an investigation and recorded the family's allegations. Based on the complaint and preliminary findings, police registered a case against Dahat for abetment of suicide.
The investigating officer is now examining the circumstances of the woman's death, her relationship with the accused, the alleged threats regarding the photos and videos, and the evidence available.
No arrest has been made in the case so far. Police said further action will be taken once the allegations are confirmed and the investigation is complete.
