Beneficiaries of the Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar grant in Chandrapur district are not receiving it on time. The matter has now reached the government. MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar has written to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis about it.
The letter says destitute persons, the disabled, widows and the elderly depend on this grant for their livelihood. The amount is important for medicines, treatment and daily needs. Mungantiwar has demanded that the technical or administrative reasons behind the delay in disbursing the grant be removed. The purpose of the letter is that beneficiaries keep receiving regular assistance.
Mungantiwar has said it is extremely important that the thousands of needy people whose daily needs, medicines, treatment and livelihood depend on the grant receive the money on time. He wants arrangements made for them to receive the scheme's honorarium regularly and on time in Chandrapur district, so that beneficiaries do not face financial hardship because of delays. He made this demand through the letter sent to Chief Minister Fadnavis.
The letter states that complaints are coming in from many beneficiaries in Chandrapur district that they are not getting the scheme's money regularly. According to Mungantiwar, the grant is not just financial help for beneficiaries but an important means of meeting their daily needs. Every eligible beneficiary should therefore receive the grant within the stipulated time, avoiding delays.
He has also requested the chief minister to issue the necessary instructions to the concerned system so that there is no delay in receiving the grant in future.
Mungantiwar has advocated on the honorarium under this scheme earlier as well. He is said to have raised the questions of the destitute in the Assembly and taken the initiative to increase the grant while he was the state's finance minister. As finance minister, he raised the grant from Rs 600 to Rs 1,200. Seeing that the assistance continued to fall short even after that, he repeatedly raised his voice in the Assembly for increasing the honorarium from Rs 1,200 to Rs 1,500.
Like his earlier advocacy for a higher honorarium, Mungantiwar has now drawn the government's attention to getting beneficiaries their grant on time. He says the most needy section of society should regularly receive the money that is rightfully theirs. This is the main purpose behind the demand.
