Although the southwest monsoon has withdrawn from Maharashtra, the discomfort of October heat has not eased. On Friday, October 23, Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and surrounding areas may face sultry, humid conditions. Some parts of Konkan, however, are likely to see light to moderate rain and showers accompanied by thunder.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rain will remain limited in many parts of the state for now. The weather is expected to stay dry in Pune, Nashik and most of Marathwada.

In Mumbai city, the sky may be partly cloudy on Friday, but the day will feel hot. According to available forecasts, the maximum temperature in the city may be around 37 to 38 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 27 to 28 degrees. High humidity may make it feel hotter than the actual temperature.

Thane, Palghar and Raigad may also see hot and humid weather in places. The chance of rain in these areas on October 23 is low, and the weather is forecast to remain mainly dry.

Pune city is likely to stay mainly dry on October 23. Strong sunshine during the day may add to the sultriness. Forecasts from some weather stations in the city indicate a maximum temperature between 34 and 37 degrees Celsius. Mornings and late evenings may bring comparatively more relief. No widespread rain is currently forecast for Pune district.

The weather may change in parts of Konkan on Friday. Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are forecast in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. Rain is also possible in places in Kolhapur district and the ghat areas. Isolated rain has also been forecast for the ghat areas of Satara district and for Sangli. From October 24, however, the weather in these areas is expected to turn dry. People should check local weather information before stepping out.

In Vidarbha, Nagpur, Akola, Amravati and neighbouring districts may feel sultry during the day. There is no widespread chance of rain at present. Most districts of Marathwada, including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Nanded, Latur and Dharashiv, are forecast to stay dry. In Nashik, Jalgaon, Dhule and Solapur in Central Maharashtra too, relief from heat through rain is unlikely, as the weather is likely to remain mainly dry.

To avoid the strong October sun and sultriness, people should not step out unnecessarily in the afternoon. They should drink plenty of water and cover their heads when going out. In Konkan and the ghat areas, people should not stand in open fields or under tall trees when lightning flashes.
