Mul weightlifters win 4 golds at Nagpur divisional meet, picked for state schools event
Weightlifters from Mul won four gold and three silver medals at the Nagpur divisional school championship, and the four gold winners will compete at the state meet in Amravati.
Weightlifters from Mul have performed strongly at the Nagpur divisional school championship. At the event held in Nagpur on October 3, they won a total of four gold and three silver medals.
All of them train free of cost at the Mul Taluka Sports Complex under Karan Kosare, a coach with a National Institute of Sports (NIS) diploma. The four gold medallists have been selected for the state-level school championship to be held in Amravati from October 13 to 15.
In the under-19 girls' category, four Mul lifters beat their rivals to take first place. Jaswinderkaur Karnalsing Bawari won in the 48 kg category, Shravani Kishor Ambulkar in the 53 kg category, Shivani Jalindra Wadhai in the 58 kg category and Nandini Motiram Chaudhari in the 86 kg category.
Among the silver medallists are Ishani Mohurle (48 kg) and Pranali Jharkar (above 77 kg) in the under-17 girls' category. Aman Faruk Shaikh finished second among under-19 boys.
The four first-place finishers will be part of the Nagpur division team at the state-level school weightlifting championship, representing the division in Amravati.
The taluka town of Mul has established a strong presence in sport, especially weightlifting. Free weightlifting training has run in Mul for the past four years, and the athletes it has produced have been successful from the start. This year too, Mul has consistently been at the top in weightlifting in Chandrapur district.
District sports officer Vinod Thikre, Namdevji Pijurkar, Rupchand Urade, Akash Chaudhari and Swapnil Awghade, along with sports enthusiasts, praised the athletes and their coaches for the success. They also wished the athletes well for the state-level championship in Amravati.
