Mul-Nagpur bus service resumes after Sudhir Mungantiwar's push

The bus service from Mul in Chandrapur district to Nagpur resumed on September 29. The service had been suspended for several days, causing considerable hardship to people in Mul taluka in their daily travel. With the bus running again, school and college students, patients, women and senior citizens will benefit directly.

MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar had written to Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik and Sanjay Sethi, Additional Chief Secretary of the Transport Department, demanding that the Mul-Nagpur service be restarted immediately. In the letter he said students, patients, women, senior citizens and the differently abled were affected by the suspension, as were people travelling to Nagpur for various errands. He also recalled that a few years ago the ST ran about 15 trips a day on this route, and said the Mul-Nagpur bus is a daily necessity for people.

Mungantiwar is said to have done more than send the letter. He spoke to Minister Sarnaik by phone and urged him to restart the service soon. He then sent his personal assistants to the divisional controller so that the matter could also be followed up at the departmental level.

In his letter, Mungantiwar described the geographical, social, educational and commercial importance of Mul town. He wrote that the lack of a direct ST bus to Nagpur was a serious problem in people's daily lives. Those travelling to Nagpur for treatment, studies, jobs, business and government or social work now again have a dependable means of public transport.

Mungantiwar has also been making continuous efforts to run additional buses between Nagpur and Mul from the Nagpur and Umred depots. This expanded service is said to begin soon as well. It will give people of Mul taluka easier and more regular buses to and from Nagpur.

People in Mul thanked Mungantiwar on the resumption of the service. They say his way of treating people's difficulties as his own responsibility and pursuing them from the government level to the departmental level was visible once again.
