MP Bajrang Sonawane claims plot to implicate son in Vilas Ghule murder was hatched from jail
MP Bajrang Sonawane alleges Walmik Karad phoned Sugreev Karad from jail to frame his son Saurabh in the Vilas Ghule murder, and played an audio clip.
A new twist has emerged in the murder case of Vilas Ghule of Kaij taluka in Beed. MP Bajrang Sonawane called a press conference and levelled serious allegations against Walmik Karad and Sugreev Karad. He claimed a conspiracy was hatched to implicate his son, Saurabh Sonawane, in the case. In support of his allegations, Sonawane played an audio clip for journalists.
According to Sonawane, Walmik Karad phoned Sugreev Karad from jail and asked him to try to implicate Saurabh Sonawane in the Vilas Ghule murder. Sonawane also claimed that Sugreev Karad was told to place the body in front of the police station, stage a protest by climbing a water tank, and hold a rasta roko.
Sonawane played the audio clip of the conversation at the press conference. He has demanded that the recording be sent to a forensic laboratory to establish whether it is genuine.
Sonawane said his son's name was not in the initial FIR in the Vilas Ghule murder. He questioned why Saurabh Sonawane's name appeared later in a supplementary statement. He reiterated that his son has no connection with the murder. He has said earlier that if his son's involvement is proved, he will hand him over to the police himself.
The SIT had also questioned Saurabh Sonawane in the case. Sonawane's fresh allegations have revived political and investigative debate around the matter.
Sonawane has also raised questions about the Beed jail administration. He has demanded an inquiry into the use of mobile phones and SIM cards from the jail. He also wants an inquiry into the alleged call recording in the case, activities inside the jail, and how his son's name came to figure in the supplementary statement.
Sonawane's allegations have caused a stir in the state. There is no official confirmation yet on whether the alleged audio clip is genuine or whose voices are in it. Any final conclusion on the claims can be drawn only after that confirmation. Attention now turns to how the investigating agencies view the allegations and what action follows.
