Monsoon withdraws from half of Maharashtra as October heat builds; rain alert for several districts
The monsoon has left half the state, but harsh afternoon sun and humidity persist, with thunderstorm rain forecast in several districts.
The monsoon is withdrawing swiftly from the state, but the heat of "October heat" is also intensifying. According to the latest forecast of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon has left half the state. Even so, the afternoon sun has become harsh and humidity has risen considerably.
Amid this dual weather pattern, hot and humid conditions are expected in the Konkan. Thunderstorm rain alerts have been issued for some districts of Western Maharashtra and Vidarbha.
On October 5, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts may see light showers along with hot and humid weather. Thunderstorms with rain are forecast in Sindhudurg, Kolhapur district and ghat areas, and Satara ghat areas. The weather department has also forecast light showers in Pune district and ghat areas, and in Satara, Sangli, Dharashiv and Latur districts.
For tomorrow, Tuesday, October 6, showers are forecast in Raigad and Ratnagiri districts along with hot and humid weather. An alert for heavy rain with lightning and thunderstorms has been issued for Sindhudurg, Kolhapur ghat areas, Satara ghat areas and Gadchiroli district in East Vidarbha. Light to moderate rain with lightning is possible in Pune ghat areas, Satara ghat areas, and Sangli and Solapur districts.
On temperatures, the maximum has crossed 35 degrees Celsius in most parts of the state at present. In the past 24 hours, Malegaon recorded the state's highest temperature at 38.2 degrees Celsius. It was followed by Santacruz in Mumbai at 36.1 degrees Celsius and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar at 36 degrees Celsius. People are troubled by the humidity.
The monsoon officially began its withdrawal from half of Maharashtra on October 3. Its withdrawal line is currently passing through Supaul, Ranchi, Raipur, Brahmapuri, Parbhani, Baramati and Harne. The weather department says conditions are likely to become highly favourable over the next two to three days for the monsoon to withdraw from most of Marathwada and Vidarbha, and from parts of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and north interior Karnataka.
