Monsoon begins retreat from Maharashtra, only isolated showers likely in Konkan and Central Maharashtra
Rain is easing across Maharashtra as the monsoon withdraws, with most of the state set to stay dry in the coming days, the weather department says.
The monsoon has begun withdrawing from the state, and the intensity of rain across Maharashtra is gradually declining. According to the weather department's latest forecast, a large part of the state is likely to stay dry for the next few days. Light showers may still fall in a few select belts, so farmers and the general public are keeping a watch on the weather.
For October 2, the department has forecast rain with lightning and thunder at a few places in districts of Konkan-Goa and South Central Maharashtra. Light to moderate rain is possible. Strong winds at 30 to 40 km per hour are also expected. Region-wise, Konkan and Central Maharashtra will see rain only at isolated places on October 2, while Marathwada and Vidarbha are likely to remain completely dry.
On October 3, light rain is possible at some places in districts of Konkan-Goa and Central Maharashtra. Marathwada may see partly cloudy skies that day, while Vidarbha will remain dry.
On October 4, too, light rain is likely at isolated places in Konkan-Goa and Central Maharashtra. Skies over Marathwada are expected to be mostly clear, and Vidarbha will stay dry.
On October 5 and 6, the region-wise weather in the state does not show much change. Rain is possible at some places in Konkan and Central Maharashtra, while Marathwada and Vidarbha are expected to stay dry.
The forecast for each region is thus nearly the same from October 2 to 6: isolated rain in Konkan and in Central Maharashtra, and dry weather in Marathwada and Vidarbha.
Though the monsoon is retreating, the occasional isolated showers in Konkan and Central Maharashtra may bring a little coolness to the air and some relief from the humidity. In Marathwada and Vidarbha, the weather will be mostly dry and clear, creating favourable conditions for farm work. Given the likelihood of lightning on October 2, people and farmers in the areas concerned must take full safety precautions.
