MNS objects to giving treated sewage water to green data centre park in Ambernath
The MNS has written to the Ambernath Municipal Council president opposing agenda item 58, which proposes supplying treated water from two sewage plants to a data centre park.
Item 58 on the agenda of the Ambernath Municipal Council proposes giving treated water from the sewage treatment plants at Vadolgaon and Chikhloli to the proposed Green Integrated Data Centre Park. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has strongly opposed the move.
Bandu Deshmukh, MNS district president for the Kalyan Lok Sabha constituency, has written to the president of the Ambernath Municipal Council, setting out the party's position in the letter.
According to the council's proposal, the matter of giving the treated water from the Vadolgaon and Chikhloli sewage treatment plants to the proposed park is under consideration. The MNS says that, given the city's future needs, this water should not be given to any private project.
According to the January 2026 records of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), the Vadolgaon STP has a capacity of 45 MLD and the Chikhloli STP 9 MLD, a combined capacity of 54 MLD. The MPCB records also make it clear that more STP capacity will be needed for Ambernath's sewage system in future.
The MNS has demanded that, instead of giving treated water to a private data centre, the administration draw up a separate plan. This should examine how the water could be used for the city's gardens, tree planting, green spaces and other public needs.
The party also says the city's sewage treatment system must be made fully capable before water is given to private projects. If water ever has to be given for commercial use, it should not be given directly to a private data centre. The MNS position is that the administration should examine other options.
All eyes are now on what the council decides on item 58 after this objection, and whether the proposal to give treated water to the green data centre goes ahead or is changed.
