The homes under PM Awas Yojana in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region are meant for the Economically Weaker Section and will be allotted by lottery once built in three years.

MHADA has taken a significant step towards fulfilling the common man's dream of owning a home. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), a total of 1,400 affordable homes will be built in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The homes will be priced at just Rs 20 lakh to Rs 22 lakh, and the project is being seen as a major opportunity for people in the Economically Weaker Section (EWS).

The project is the responsibility of MHADA's Konkan Board. The homes are being built in the Ambernath and Kalyan areas. Cities are growing and house prices are rising, making it increasingly difficult for ordinary people to buy a home. Keeping this in view, the Konkan Board has begun work on the scheme at speed.

Construction of 600 homes is under way at Kochkuntwali near Ambernath. Work on 348 homes is continuing on a war footing at Ghotegher near Kalyan.

A project of 350 homes has been planned at Shivganga Nagar, but its layout plan is still awaiting approval. At Morivali, 102 new homes will be built, and a tender process will be run for them soon.

Construction has begun on about 950 of these homes. Approval for the remaining 450 is in its final stage. MHADA's Konkan Board has set a target of completing all 1,400 homes within the next three years.

All the homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana have been reserved for people in the Economically Weaker Section (EWS). Each home will have a carpet area of about 320 square feet. The price will be roughly between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 22 lakh.

On the sale of the homes, it has been stated that once all of them are completed in three years, MHADA will hold a transparent lottery. Eligible and needy people will be given homes through this lottery. The initiative could be a major support for middle-income and low-income families who dream of owning a home.
