Metro 5 to extend beyond Kalyan to Ulhasnagar's Shantinagar; tenders worth Rs 4,534 crore issued

Good news has come for the people of Kalyan and Ulhasnagar on the occasion of Diwali. Under the Metro 5 project, the metro will now run beyond Kalyan to Shantinagar in Ulhasnagar. The decision brought celebrations in Ulhasnagar.

Ulhasnagar Mayor Ashwini Nikam and Shiv Sena corporators gathered outside the MP's office, where they burst firecrackers and celebrated by feeding each other pedas. Shiv Sena workers marked the announcement even before Diwali.

During the celebration, MP Shrikant Shinde spoke to Ulhasnagar's corporators and Shiv Sena workers over a video call and gave details of the metro project. According to him, the metro reaching Shantinagar in Ulhasnagar after Kalyan will greatly benefit people there. Shinde also said the process of taking the metro further to Chikhloli in Badlapur would also be completed soon.

Metro 5 is considered an important infrastructure project in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. It is planned to link Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Ulhasnagar and Ambernath with one another by metro. It is expected to make travel easier for people in these cities.

Many people in Kalyan and Ulhasnagar travel daily for work, business and education, and they could benefit from the metro. Along with reduced traffic pressure on the roads, connectivity between these cities is also expected to be strengthened.

Tenders worth a total of Rs 4,534 crore have been issued to build the extended section of Metro 5. The extension will be an important step towards connecting Ulhasnagar after Kalyan, and other cities in the area beyond, to the metro network.

Shrikant Shinde said that along with the metro reaching Ulhasnagar, the process for the extension up to Chikhloli in Badlapur is also under way. In time, people in Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Ulhasnagar and Ambernath are expected to get one more public transport option. Overall, the extended Metro 5 route is expected to give momentum to the development of the whole region, including Kalyan and Ulhasnagar.
