MCOCA approved against Safwan Khan gang in Beed firing case

Special Inspector General approves MCOCA action against Beed history-sheeter Safwan Khan and his gang over an August firing incident

Beed Rural Police have invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, or MCOCA, against history-sheeter Safwan Khan Mehboob Khan of the Peth Beed area and his gang. The proposal sent by Beed Rural Police has been approved by the Special Inspector General of Police for the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar range.

The case dates to August 11, 2026. Around seven in the evening, Shaikh Mohammad Saad Shaikh Haroon was returning with a friend from Saleem Petrol Pump on Imampur Road when an accused named Syed Saad Azam started a quarrel with them over an alleged angry look. This is reported to have led to an assault, after which the accused called his maternal uncle, Safwan Khan, to the spot. Police investigation found that Safwan Khan fired his pistol at the complainant and witnesses with intent to kill. A case, crime number 300/2026, was registered at Beed Rural police station. Police Inspector Somnath Jadhav investigated the case, in which the roles of Pathan Fardeen Pathan Feroz, Shiklekar Arbaz Abdul Nawab, Syed Saad Azam, Aman Khan Naser Khan Pathan and six others also came to light.

Police said the gang's accused have serious cases registered against them within the limits of Peth Beed, Beed Rural and Beed City police stations, including attempt to murder, illegal possession of weapons, rioting, kidnapping, house trespass with assault, and extortion.

Beed Rural Police had sent the proposal for MCOCA action through the Sub-Divisional Police Officer, the Additional Superintendent of Police and the Superintendent of Police to the Special Inspector General of Police. With the proposal now approved, the way is clear for further action under MCOCA against Safwan Khan and his gang.
