A massive fire broke out at the dumping ground in the Bhoidapada area of Vasai East around 10 pm last night. The fire was so intense that it changed the entire look of the area around the Vasai dumping ground, with thick plumes of smoke rising from the site.

The smoke engulfed the entire area. It was not just Bhoidapada that was affected, smoke was seen spreading as far as Sativali, Valiv, Valiv Phata, Fatherwadi, Evershine, Gokhivare and Naigaon. The incident has created panic among residents across the area.

Smoke from the burning garbage at the dumping ground has led to a steady stream of complaints from nearby residents about difficulty breathing, burning eyes and a strong stench. The smoke from the fire is clearly visible in several localities, raising concerns among people about their health.

The burning of garbage at the dumping ground has worsened the stench and smoke in the area, causing breathing trouble and eye irritation for residents. People have previously raised questions over garbage, stench, pollution and fire incidents at the Bhoidapada dumping project. Following this latest incident, questions are again being raised over the municipal administration's fire safety arrangements and management of the site.

Residents are angry that fires keep breaking out at the dumping project, with smoke spreading for kilometres and directly affecting thousands of people, and are asking when the administration will take the matter seriously.

People are demanding a full inquiry into the incident, to establish whether fire prevention measures were in place at the dumping project, how long the administration took to bring the fire under control, and what effect the smoke from the fire has had on residents' health. They say the matter is directly linked to their health and safety, and that the municipal administration should not limit itself to putting out the fire but should investigate the entire system and safety arrangements at the dumping project.
