Maruti Dzire hits record 56% share of sedan segment in August
Maruti Suzuki's Dzire led a bumper sales month, taking more than half of all sedans sold in India in August.
August 2026 was a strong month for Maruti Suzuki in the Indian car market. The company sold 1,76,971 units in the month, up 34.81 percent over the same month last year. The compact sedan Dzire contributed the most to this surge, setting a new record in the Indian market by asserting its dominance in the sedan segment.
A total of 32,913 sedans were sold across the country in August 2026, of which 18,418 units were the Maruti Dzire alone. This means every second sedan on the road was a Dzire, and its share of the segment reached 56 percent. Dzire sales grew 11.6 percent compared to last year. The Hyundai Aura was second on the list with 6,685 units sold, while the Honda Amaze was third with 3,512 units.
Several reasons are being cited for the Dzire's strong sales. First, its pricing fits every customer's budget. The ex-showroom price starts at Rs 6.31 lakh and goes up to Rs 9.41 lakh. From the budget LXi model to the ZXi Plus AMT and CNG variants, which start at Rs 8.18 lakh, there is an option for every kind of customer.
The car remains a top choice not just for personal use but also for taxi and commercial fleets. In the first half of 2026, around 35 percent of its total sales came from the taxi segment, and Maruti maintains a strong hold on that market through its Tour S model.
The new-generation Dzire has also been given special attention on safety. The car received a 5-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP and Global NCAP crash tests. In addition, 6 airbags and electronic stability control are standard across all variants.
The Dzire also performs well on mileage. With the 1.2-litre Z-series petrol engine, the manual model delivers 24.79 km per litre and the AMT model delivers 25.71 km per litre. The CNG model gives a mileage of up to 33.73 km per kg, which does not put too much strain on the pockets of middle-class buyers.
