Marathi horror-comedy 'Bhootam Bhayam' to stream on Zee5 from September 25

Marathi film "Bhootam Bhayam" is moving from theatres to OTT. The film will stream exclusively on Marathi Zee5 from September 25, 2026. It is being released with claims of offering a fresh experience, different from typical horror films. The film marks Ramchandra Gawkar's debut as a director, and his first full-length feature blends fear, comedy, mystery and adventure.

The story revolves around an old coin believed to have the power to turn anything into gold. Seven unemployed friends find this mysterious coin and see it as a way to get rich overnight. But their greed draws them towards a deserted mansion called "Ranivada", where an age-old curse lies hidden. Gaja, one of the friends, mysteriously disappears, and that is when the story takes a scarier turn. Alongside its frightening moments, the film balances comedy arising from awkward situations, and touches on themes of friendship, greed, the struggle to survive and the lure of easily gained wealth.

Produced under the banners of Zee Studios Marathi and Kaira Kumar Creations, the film features a new generation of talented actors including Chhaya Kadam, Pushkaraj Chirputkar, Karan Sonawane, Neel Salekar, Saurabh Ghadge and Shubham Jadhav.

Director Ramchandra Gawkar said this film's journey has been very special for him, especially since it is his first full-length feature as a director. He said he wanted to blend fear, comedy and adventure to create a story that would entertain audiences wholeheartedly. He added that seven friends suddenly find something that could change their lives, only to later discover that it comes with a dangerous curse attached, and this idea gave him plenty of scope to create both comedy and thrills. He said he is excited about bringing this distinct story to audiences on Marathi Zee5.

Actress Chhaya Kadam said working on "Bhootam Bhayam" was a very different experience for her. She said the film has a unique mix of fear and comedy, and the world the team built for the story feels mysterious as well as entertaining. According to her, some scenes will make audiences laugh while others will keep them curious about what happens next. She said she is eagerly looking forward to audiences seeing this story, and hopes they will fully enjoy the excitement, mystery and supernatural events of "Bhootam Bhayam".
