A family dispute turned into a street assault in the jurisdiction of Pombhurna police station. A 36-year-old man was waylaid on the road and beaten badly over lingering anger from a matrimonial dispute pending in family court. He was seriously injured in the attack, and Pombhurna police have registered a case against the main accused and his associates under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Sandeep Tukaram Komalwar (36), a resident of Jamtukum, had married Komal in 2020. However, due to constant friction between the couple over suspicions, the wife had moved to her parental home in Chandrapur since last year. The two currently have an alimony case pending in Ballarpur court. Since a hearing in the case was scheduled for September 21, Sandeep Komalwar had gone to Ballarpur on his two-wheeler.

After finishing his work, as he was returning home around 5 pm, he saw his wife, children, brother-in-law Chetan and Salpindu's maternal uncle Hussain Chanchalwar having breakfast near an eatery at Yenboli. When Sandeep tried to give his son something to eat, his wife took the child away. This led to an argument, and the brother-in-law and his uncle shoved Sandeep.

Following this dispute, Sandeep called Hussain Chanchalwar's son Kiran Chanchalwar and questioned him about his father's behaviour. Kiran then called Sandeep to a bar on Thergaon road on the pretext of resolving the dispute over drinks. When Sandeep reached there around 7 pm, Kiran Chanchalwar and two associates, who arrived on two motorcycles, attacked him suddenly from behind. He was pulled off his vehicle and beaten severely. In his complaint, Sandeep has claimed he also heard his wife's voice during the assault. He suffered a serious injury to the back of his head, causing heavy bleeding.

Seriously injured, Sandeep fled the spot and sought help from passing motorists, but no one came forward on seeing the blood-soaked young man. He eventually rode his two-wheeler himself to Devada and from there reached his home in Jamtukum in someone else's vehicle. Villagers immediately called the police helpline number 112.

Pombhurna police reached the spot and the injured Sandeep was admitted to a government hospital for treatment. Based on Sandeep Komalwar's complaint, Pombhurna police station has registered a case against accused Kiran Chanchalwar and his associates under sections 118(1), 352, 351(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The case is being further investigated by police constable Naresh Nimgade.
