Shardiya Navratri is about to begin. This year the festival will be observed from October 11 to 19. Over these nine days, nine different forms of the goddess are worshipped. Every day of the festival is considered special and joyous, and a different offering is made to the goddess each day.

On the very first day, you can make saffron-cardamom pedha from milk powder as the offering. Everyone likes sweets. Instead of buying ready-made sweets from a shop each time, these pedhas can be made at home with very few ingredients. Everyone at home will enjoy them, and they taste good too.

During festival days, adulteration is rampant in the market. Rather than eating adulterated items, it is better to use milk and make tasty dishes at home. So here is the method for making saffron-cardamom pedha from milk powder.

The ingredients needed are milk powder, milk, ghee, powdered sugar, cardamom powder, saffron and chopped pistachios.

First, put the milk, ghee and milk powder together in a pan. Then switch on the gas and mix the whole mixture well. Keep stirring the mixture continuously with a spoon so that it does not stick to the pan. After two to three minutes, the mixture will begin to thicken.

Now add the saffron-infused milk and mix. Then turn off the gas and set the mixture aside to cool. Once it has cooled, add the powdered sugar and cardamom powder and knead it well by hand, mashing it thoroughly.

When the pedha mixture turns soft, grease your hands with ghee and shape pedhas in a size of your choice. After shaping each pedha, press the centre lightly with your thumb and garnish with chopped pistachios on top. Soft, tasty saffron pedhas are ready for the goddess's offering.
