Mahindra Thar Roxx OG gets new platform and features, prices close to old model
Mahindra has given the 3-door Thar OG its biggest update yet, with prices on some comparable variants nearly unchanged from the outgoing model.
Mahindra has made the biggest update yet to its 3-door Thar OG. Despite changes to the platform, suspension, steering, engine and off-road features, the company has kept prices on some comparable variants close to those of the outgoing model. The entry-level 1.5-litre diesel AXT variant is priced at Rs 10.32 lakh, while the LXT 1.5 diesel variant costs Rs 12.99 lakh. These prices apply to deliveries up to November 30, 2026.
The Thar OG now gets electric power steering in place of hydraulic. It also gets push-button start, 18-inch steel wheels and soft armrests in the second row. Features carried over from the older model include rear AC vents, dual airbags, ESP, rollover mitigation and a height-adjustable driver seat. Buyers may notice a difference in steering and cabin comfort in everyday use.
The biggest change in this update is to the vehicle's platform. The Thar OG is now based on the M_Glyde 4G platform, which offers greater structural stiffness along with a rear Pentalink suspension and Watts Link. NVH damping has also been improved, and the ZXT variant gets Frequency Dependent Damping. These changes are aimed at improving ride quality, steering and cornering stability.
The 4-wheel-drive version of the LXT comes with an electronic locking differential along with Mud, Sand and Snow terrain modes. Some RWD variants also get Terrain Assist. Features such as a colour MID, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and cruise control have also been added.
The engines also produce more power. The 2.2-litre mHawk engine now makes about 150 hp and 330 Nm of torque, while the 2.0-litre mStallion engine produces about 160 hp and 330 Nm of torque. The 1.5-litre diesel engine makes 117 hp and 300 Nm of torque. The top ZXT variant gets 6 airbags, front and rear disc brakes, wireless charging, 19-inch alloy wheels, LED lamps and front parking sensors. Deliveries to customers will begin from October 11.
