Nagpur: A woman entrepreneur has been cheated of Rs 2 crore on the promise of big government projects. Tehsil police have registered a case against four people, including a Pune-based company.

The accused are Pathway Business Consultancy, Mumbai-Pune Highway, Chinchwad, Pune; Rahul Gopalrao Sirskar (41), Nehru Nagar, Pimpri, Pune; Rohit Damodar Randad, Pimpri Chinchwad, Pune; and Ankush Harikishan Agrawal, Pimpri Chinchwad, Pune.

According to the case, Ritu Bharat Malhotra runs a company in the MIDC area. It makes steel dustbins, does business in several states and also exports. She met the accused in connection with her business. They told her they had considerable access in the Central and state governments and promised to get her big government projects. To build her trust, they also gave her forged documents of government projects. Trusting them, Malhotra agreed to invest.

According to her complaint, the accused called her to discuss the matter at a restaurant in Itwari. After the discussion, they demanded money from her to secure the government projects. Between January 2024 and March 2026, Malhotra paid the accused Rs 2 crore, all by cheque and RTGS.

She then kept asking the accused to deliver the projects. Instead, they kept stalling her with fresh excuses. Seeing this, Malhotra asked them to return the money. The accused began avoiding any reply. Distressed, she filed a complaint at Tehsil police station. Police have registered a case under charges of cheating and the IT Act and begun an investigation.
