A Mahavitaran senior technician in Parli was caught by the Anti-Corruption Bureau taking a Rs 13,000 bribe for restoring electricity supply.
A case of alleged bribery has come to light in the Mahavitaran department in Parli town of Beed district. A senior technician there was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau's Jalna team while taking a bribe of Rs 13,000. He is accused of demanding Rs 15,000 in exchange for installing a new electricity meter and restoring power supply.
The employee caught has been identified as Arun Suresh Gite, 31, a resident of Mauli Nagar, Parli, who was working as a senior technician with Mahavitaran. According to the information, the complainant's electricity meter had earlier been removed, and Gite allegedly demanded a bribe for reinstalling it and restoring the supply. A complaint was lodged with the ACB over this.
After receiving the complaint, the ACB team first verified it. The investigation found that Rs 15,000 had been demanded for installing the new meter. Subsequently, the complainant and the employee negotiated over the amount, which was finally settled at Rs 13,000. Following this, the ACB planned a trap to catch the employee while he accepted the bribe.

The case, involving an alleged bribe demand for a basic service to electricity consumers, that of getting a new meter installed and supply restored, has drawn attention. It remains to be seen whether further details emerge in the investigation and whether anyone else is found to have a role in the matter.
