The Maharashtra government has made Aadhaar mandatory for document registration. No document will be registered without an Aadhaar card. The decision was taken by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule.

Bawankule clarified that the decision aims to stop fraud in the purchase and sale of property. The government says it will curb fraud committed by producing false witnesses and false parties.

The rule is not limited to sales and purchases. Aadhaar identity proof has been made compulsory for 63 types of registration, including purchase, sale, gift, mortgage and partition. The Revenue Department's decision comes into effect today, October 1. The government has also issued a gazette notification for it.

Bawankule also spoke about the Surya project in Palghar. He said the process of acquiring houses and land is under way there, and that Hanuman Nagar and some other villages are part of it. According to him, these villages were rehabilitated in 1979, but because there is no land record, the question has arisen of whom the rehabilitation money should be paid to.

Bawankule said that after the 1970 amendment, a property card will be prepared and issued. A satbara (land record) will be created on that basis. Once the satbara and property card are in place, the benefit of land acquisition will be given and people will then get their plots. He said the project had been stuck since 1970, but a decision on the Surya project was taken at yesterday's Cabinet meeting.

A decision has also been taken on Nagpur district. For people there who wanted houses but had no space, there was land next to a project. Union Minister Gadkari had proposed a smart village concept for that land. The Cabinet then decided that the land would be given free. Houses will be provided on this land for homeless people, members of the Phase Pardhi community and others who have no homes.
