Maharashtra braces for heavy rain, IMD issues yellow alert for next 24 hours
A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is set to bring heavy rain, thunder and gusty winds across Maharashtra over the next two to three days.
The effect of a low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal is now clearly visible on Maharashtra's weather. Rain has already begun in several parts of the state, and it is expected to intensify over the next two to three days. The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for districts in Vidarbha, Marathwada, western Maharashtra and parts of Konkan, warning of thunder, gusty winds and heavy rain in some places.
In Konkan, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts have been placed under a yellow alert, with winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour and thunderstorms with heavy rain possible in some areas. Palghar, Thane, Mumbai and Raigad districts are likely to see light to moderate rain, thundershowers and heavy rain in some places.
In north Maharashtra, Dhule, Nandurbar and Jalgaon districts may see light rain, while Nashik and Ahilyanagar districts have been placed under a yellow alert, with light to heavy rain along with winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour expected there as well.
In western Maharashtra, a yellow alert is in force for Pune, Pune ghat areas, Satara, Satara ghat areas, Kolhapur, Sangli and Solapur districts, where thundershowers are likely, with rain expected to be heavier in the ghat regions than elsewhere.
In Marathwada, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur and Dharashiv districts have all been placed under a yellow alert, with light to heavy rain along with winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour likely to continue for the next two days.
In Vidarbha, Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha and Yavatmal districts have been placed under a yellow alert, with thunder, gusty winds and light to moderate rain likely in some places, and heavy rain expected in a few areas.
The low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is expected to give a fresh push to rain across the state, with the intensity likely to continue in many areas over the next two to three days. People in districts under the yellow alert have been advised to take precautions during lightning. The rain could also affect farming activity, and farmers are keeping a close watch on further weather updates.
On temperature, the maximum on Tuesday, September 22, is expected to be 32 degrees Celsius and the minimum 26 degrees. The same is expected on Wednesday, September 23. On Thursday, September 24, the maximum is likely to be 33 degrees and the minimum 26 degrees, while on Friday, September 25, the maximum is expected to be 33 degrees and the minimum 27 degrees. On Saturday, September 26, the maximum is likely to be 32 degrees and the minimum 25 degrees, and on Sunday, September 27, the maximum is expected to be 33 degrees and the minimum 27 degrees. On Monday, September 28, the maximum is likely to be 33 degrees and the minimum 26 degrees, on Tuesday, September 29, the maximum is expected to be 32 degrees and the minimum 26 degrees, and on Wednesday, September 30, and Thursday, October 1, the maximum is likely to be 33 degrees and the minimum 26 degrees Celsius.
