The Election Commission of India has announced the full schedule for elections to five teacher and graduate constituency seats in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, covering three graduate constituencies and two teacher constituencies.

The seats going to polls are the Aurangabad Division Graduates, Pune Division Graduates and Nagpur Division Graduates constituencies, along with the Amravati Division Teachers and Pune Division Teachers constituencies. Voter registration details for all five constituencies have also been posted on the website of Maharashtra's Chief Electoral Officer.

The terms of the sitting MLCs from these five seats end on December 6, 2026, which is why the elections are being held in time to choose new representatives.

The election notification will be issued on September 29, 2026, and the nomination process will begin the same day. Candidates can file nominations until October 6. Nominations will be scrutinised on October 7, and candidates will have until October 9 to withdraw their names, after which the final list of contestants will be settled.

Voting for all five Legislative Council constituencies will take place on October 23, 2026, from 8 am to 4 pm. Separate voter lists have been prepared for the graduate and teacher constituencies.

To vote in a graduate constituency, a person must ordinarily reside in that constituency and have been a graduate for at least three years before the specified date. For a teacher constituency, a candidate must have taught for at least three years in total over the past six years at a recognised educational institution in that constituency.

Counting of votes will take place on October 27, 2026, with results for all five constituencies expected the same day.

With the schedule for the five Legislative Council seats now announced, political activity in Maharashtra is expected to pick up, with major parties likely to begin searching for candidates, making constituency-wise preparations and holding local-level meetings. Since the voter composition in teacher and graduate constituencies differs from other elections, voter registration, outreach and campaign planning will be especially important for candidates. The political picture will become clearer once the nomination process begins on September 29.
