Breaking traffic rules proved costly for three people at Japani Garden Chowk in Nagpur's Sadar area on Thursday afternoon. A moped carrying three people jumped a red signal and collided head-on with an oncoming car. A student and two young men riding the moped were injured. Bystanders rushed the three to a nearby private hospital for treatment. The incident caused brief chaos in the area and disrupted traffic at the intersection.

The accident occurred at exactly 2 pm, when the traffic signal at Japani Garden Chowk was red for vehicles on that route. Eighteen-year-old Tanvi Chala was riding the moped at the time, with Devansh Dubey and Shivam Arsode seated behind her, all three travelling together on the same vehicle. According to information received, Tanvi did not stop at the red signal and drove on. While crossing the intersection, the moped collided hard with an oncoming car.

All three riders were thrown onto the road and injured in the collision. People present at the intersection immediately rushed to help and carried the injured to a nearby private hospital. Both the moped and the car were damaged in the accident. Police from Sadar police station reached the spot on being informed and inspected the scene. A preliminary inquiry found that the accident occurred because the signal was jumped. Police are now examining CCTV footage from the area to establish exactly what happened.

The incident has once again highlighted how common it has become for young riders on two-wheelers to jump signals. Disregard for traffic rules appears to have become routine in the area, keeping the risk of such accidents ever present.
