Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has issued an important alert for its customers. The company said fake messages and calls are being circulated through SMS and WhatsApp, claiming that a gas bill needs to be updated or that the gas supply will be disconnected immediately. These include scam links, dangerous APK files, and attempts to pose as the real company. The company has appealed to customers to stay alert against these.

In recent times, cyber fraudsters have repeatedly duped several Mahanagar Gas customers. Fraudsters always send customers fake messages about gas bill updates and supply disconnection. Besides this, customers are also lured into clicking suspicious links, downloading APK files, or sharing sensitive personal information, the company said.

Cyber fraudsters adopt different methods to defraud people at multiple levels. These fraudsters lay traps to get customers to reveal important information or to get malware installed on their phones. Mahanagar Gas has advised customers to remain alert to such incidents and not respond to such fake messages. The company said that if any suspicious message or call is received, customers should first verify it directly by contacting MGL's official channels.

If a customer has doubts about any message, they can contact (022) 68674500 or (022) 61564500, Mahanagar Gas said. To communicate on WhatsApp, customers can also contact MGL's official number, +91 98992 03843. The company also clarified that any fake call or message should be reported to the National Cyber Crime helpline number 1930, or a complaint can be filed at www.cybercrime.gov.in.

Mahanagar Gas clarified that its representatives never ask for personal financial information such as OTPs, card numbers or passwords through phone calls, SMS or WhatsApp messages. The company never asks customers to download an APK file or click on any unknown or suspicious link.

Along with several companies, the central and state governments are also making continuous efforts to prevent cyber fraud and are spreading awareness about it. Despite this, some people are still falling victim to cyber fraud. Mahanagar Gas said that in such a situation, customers should immediately file a complaint with the cyber crime cell or the nearest police station.
