Maggi packet found with worms in Kalyan, Nestle India responds
A Kalyan customer says he found worms in a Maggi packet with an unexpired shelf life; Nestle India says it cannot yet verify the claim.
A shocking case involving Maggi noodles has come to light in the Kalyan area. A customer claims that worms and larvae came out of the packet while he was cooking Maggi. The incident has once again raised questions about the quality and safety of packaged food.
According to information received, the customer who made the claim was preparing Maggi noodles when he spotted worms and larvae inside the packet. Notably, the expiry date printed on the packet is said to be February 2027, meaning the product had not yet expired, which has raised questions about how this could have happened.
After news of the alleged incident spread, there is now a demand that Maharashtra's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) take note of the matter and get samples of the product tested in a lab.
Meanwhile, Nestle India has also issued a clarification on the matter. A company spokesperson said they learnt of the case through the media, and that neither the customer concerned nor any official has yet contacted the company. The company therefore said it would be premature to comment on the veracity of the complaint at this stage.
The company further said several quality checks are carried out at every stage, from procurement of raw material to production and packaging. Nestle India said its entire production process complies with applicable quality and food safety standards.
The company also clarified that its production centres have a robust system of quality and food safety management in place. Nestle India said its commitment to providing customers with safe, good-quality products remains unchanged.
The customer's claim has not yet been confirmed by any official investigation. A definite conclusion on the alleged lapse will only be possible once the product sample is tested.
