As the monsoon prepares to withdraw, Vidarbha is set for another spell of rain. A low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is expected to trigger rain, thunder and lightning in Nagpur and several other Vidarbha districts over the coming days. The Meteorological Department has warned of moderate to heavy rain in some areas.

According to the Meteorological Department, a yellow alert has been issued for September 22 for Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, Wardha, Yavatmal, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts. On September 23, a yellow alert will be in force across Vidarbha. Rain is expected to intensify further in some districts on September 24 and 25.

For three districts, an orange alert has been issued for Yavatmal, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli for September 24 and 25, with heavy rain possible in some places. A yellow alert will remain in force in the rest of Vidarbha's districts on those same two days. The Meteorological Department said there would be strong winds along with thunder, lightning and rain during this period.

A low pressure area formed on Monday afternoon over the east-central Bay of Bengal under the influence of a cyclonic circulation. This system is expected to move west and northwest over the next two days, which is likely to intensify monsoon activity again in several parts of Vidarbha.

A monsoon trough running north to south is also creating favourable conditions for rain. As a result, rain along with thunder and lightning is expected to continue in several parts of Vidarbha till September 25. Rain is also likely in Nagpur on September 25.

The time for the monsoon's withdrawal from Vidarbha is now approaching, which is why this spell of rain is considered significant. According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon has begun withdrawing from northwest India, and by September 21 it had withdrawn from parts of Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab.

If weather conditions remain favourable, the monsoon's withdrawal from Vidarbha could begin from the first week of October. However, before the monsoon departs, Nagpur and some parts of Vidarbha could see one or two more spells of heavy or intense rain.

The normal date for the monsoon's complete withdrawal from Maharashtra is considered to be October 10. Before that, the system forming over the Bay of Bengal could bring one or two more spells of rain to Vidarbha. Fluctuating weather conditions are likely to continue over the coming days.
