US security agencies have detained Harry Boxer, who ran the Bishnoi gang's overseas network, and Indian agencies are seeking his return through extradition or deportation.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has suffered a major international setback. Harry Boxer, who handled the gang's overseas network and is wanted in several high-profile cases, has been detained by US security agencies. The action has given not only Mumbai Police but also central investigating agencies such as the NIA and the CBI a good opportunity to tighten the screws on the Bishnoi gang's illegal international network.
Harry Boxer's real name is Harichand Jat. He is a resident of Narayanpur village in Rajasthan's Alwar district. He first lived in Jaipur, where he took professional boxing training and began teaching boxing to sportspersons. That is how he came to be known as Harry Boxer in the world of crime.
Instead of making a name in sport, he chose the path of crime. More than 22 serious cases, including attempt to murder, dacoity, extortion and illegal possession of arms, have been registered against him in Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. He is alleged to have fled India in 2022 on forged documents and settled in the US, from where he began working for Lawrence Bishnoi.
He is alleged to have begun targeting Mumbai businessmen and film directors and actors from abroad. In February 2026, unidentified people fired shots outside the Juhu house of noted film director Rohit Shetty in Mumbai. Harry Boxer then posted on social media on behalf of the Bishnoi gang, claiming responsibility for the attack.
A ransom of Rs 20 crore was demanded from actor Ranveer Singh's management team through a voice note. Harry Boxer is also said to have played the main role in the firing at Kapil Sharma's cafe in Canada and in threats received by some other artistes.
Now that he has been caught in the US, bringing him to India is the main aim of Mumbai Police and other agencies. There are two legal routes. The first is extradition. Under the extradition treaty between India and the US, the Red Corner Notice, the arrest warrant and firm evidence of the offences against Harry Boxer will be presented before a US court.
The second route is deportation. If it is established that Harry Boxer was living in the US illegally, the US Department of Homeland Security can hand him over directly to India.
Indian agencies hope that questioning him will reveal all the secrets of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang's overseas-run operations, including the sources of its money, the recruitment of new shooters and the supply of weapons.
