Keeway EZI Hypervolt-R electric scooter: 3 pros and 2 cons before you buy
The Keeway EZI Hypervolt-R brings strong performance and a big feature list, but water ingress and app-dependent controls are early concerns.
Another name has joined India's premium electric scooter segment. The Keeway EZI Hypervolt-R comes to the country via the CKD route and is being sold through Benelli and Keeway dealerships. It is the first model under the EZI brand in India, and its biggest highlight is said to be its performance.
The scooter has a 12kW motor along with a dual-battery setup with a total capacity of 5.04kWh. In Sport mode, it goes from 0 to 80kph in just 7.49 seconds, while reaching 0 to 100kph takes 13.05 seconds. Riders can choose from three riding modes: Eco, Normal and Sport. During testing, the scooter covered 125km on a single full charge in Normal mode.
The scooter also stands out in terms of design and build quality. Fourteen-inch wheels, a motorcycle-style handlebar, an eye-catching body and premium switchgear give it a distinct look compared to other scooters. Both wheels get disc brakes along with dual-channel ABS. There is 27 litres of storage under the seat, enough to fit a helmet and charger, along with 4.6 litres of storage at the front and USB Type-A and Type-C ports.
The Hypervolt-R is also comfortable for longer rides. A 770mm seat height and a raised floorboard keep the riding position relaxed. The suspension performs reasonably well on city roads, and tyre grip was found to be satisfactory.
However, there are a few things to keep in mind before buying. During testing, it was found that water, mud and debris collect in the battery compartment after riding in the rain. Each battery weighs 17.3kg, making it difficult to remove them for home charging as well.
The second issue concerns the complexity of its electronics. The scooter offers features such as traction control, regenerative braking, blind-spot detection, a reverse camera and cruise control, but many settings can only be controlled through the app. The TFT screen also does not give a direct estimate of range. Priced at Rs 1.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the scooter is loaded with features, but the overall experience could have been better if the usage process were a little simpler.
