A special training programme was held at Metro Junction Mall in Kalyan on Thursday to mark World Heart Day. The mall management, in partnership with Fortis Hospital, launched the initiative called "Har Ghar CPR Hero" aimed at preparing people to give immediate help during emergencies such as heart attacks.

More than 150 people took part in the programme, held at the mall's main atrium arena. Participants included shoppers at the mall, retailers and staff from various stores, mall management personnel, and employees from the security, housekeeping, fire safety, MEP and parking departments. Everyone took part enthusiastically.

According to the organisers, receiving first aid without delay is critical during a heart attack or any other medical emergency. With this in mind, participants were given information on CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), Basic Life Support (BLS) and what to do immediately in an emergency.

The training was conducted under the supervision of Dr Manjeet Singh Arora, Senior Consultant Physician and National First Aid, BLS and CPR trainer at Fortis Hospital. Nine CPR demonstration manikins were used, on which experts gave practical demonstrations. Participants were then given the opportunity to perform CPR themselves so they could understand the correct technique.

The training covered how crucial an immediate response is during a heart-related emergency, the basic steps of CPR, and what first aid measures should be taken until medical help arrives. Besides shoppers and retail store staff, employees from various departments of the mall also took part in this hands-on training. The entire programme was organised under the supervision of mall head Nitin Mhatre and operations head Swapnil Saigaonkar.

Devrajan Sapate, Abhilash Sunilkumar, Tejesh Satpute, Abdul Ansari, Hemal Rane and Deepak Patel contributed to the planning and coordination of the initiative. Staff from the security, housekeeping, parking, fire safety and MEP departments also helped make the programme a success.

The organisers said that help received in the first few minutes of a heart-related emergency can play a crucial role in saving a life. Such initiatives are being run with this thinking, so that basic training in CPR and Basic Life Support can reach as many people as possible. The Kalyan programme gave more than 150 people hands-on training in CPR.
