JSW Greentech launches AMPSTAR brand for electric buses and trucks
JSW Group's commercial EV arm JSW Greentech has entered commercial mobility with a new brand, AMPSTAR, for electric buses and trucks made in India.
JSW Greentech Limited, the JSW Group's commercial electric vehicle company, has launched a new brand called AMPSTAR. Under this brand, the company will design, manufacture and sell electric buses and trucks in India. With the launch, the group has entered the commercial mobility sector. The brand will go to market under the identity "AMPSTAR: powered by JSW".
The electric buses and trucks will be manufactured at a greenfield project in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The company has positioned the offering not merely as vehicle manufacturing but as a full service, including charging infrastructure, operating solutions, financial support and after-sales service, so that operators can move to electric vehicles with confidence. Customers will have the option to choose power configurations between 150 kW and 500 kW. They will also have different ownership or operating options, including outright purchase, leasing and Battery as a Service (BaaS).
The project, built on 90 acres in the AURIC area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, is said to be India's largest integrated EV manufacturing plant. It has an annual capacity of 15,000 electric buses and trucks. For the first time in India for bus manufacturing, the plant will use the "pre-treatment and electro-deposition" (PT-ED) process. The plant will also have an automated truck-cabin line and an integrated battery ecosystem.
The company has developed these vehicles in-house, tailored to Indian road and usage conditions. JSW Greentech has itself built the core systems, software and algorithms for the full electric drivetrain, allowing the vehicles to be customised to customer needs. The vehicles feature a double cooling battery system and a high-strength monocoque chassis, designed with India's climate and road conditions in mind.
Speaking at the brand launch, JSW Group chairman Sajjan Jindal said, "When we decided to enter the electric commercial mobility space, I saw it as a step towards nation-building, that is, running transport on energy produced within India instead of imported fuel. We do not control global oil prices, but how dependent we remain on them is in our hands. We want AMPSTAR to become an effective vehicle for changing India's transport patterns. This is not just a business question, it is about who we are as a nation and who we want to become. For a customer to show the courage to choose an electric bus or truck, economic viability matters more than sentiment. This decision brings many benefits, including energy security, lower logistics costs, the global competitiveness of Indian industry, a manufacturing ecosystem built within the country, and a cleaner future for the next generation. AMPSTAR is making this a step-by-step beginning towards changing India's transport patterns."
Giving more details, JSW Group's Parth Jindal said, "AMPSTAR is an initiative that brings the full strength of JSW into the commercial mobility sector, driven by a single ambition to change the way passengers and freight move in India. After listening to customers and stakeholders for several months, we realised that the real challenges to adopting this technology are not limited to the vehicle itself but go beyond it. That is why we built a full-stack electric commercial mobility solution that considers the customer's entire journey. In the name AMPSTAR, 'Amp' comes from Ampere, the unit of electric current, and represents efficiency, while 'Star' represents aspiration, leadership and progress. Our promise is to stay with customers through their journey and make the transition to electric vehicles simple, reliable and beneficial."
On the commercial benefits for customers, JSW Greentech Limited CEO Sumit Mittal said, "AMPSTAR, our vision for electric commercial mobility, begins today. These vehicles have been designed, engineered and manufactured in India from the ground up, using our own drivetrain and software, and built to suit Indian road and operating conditions. For buses, our portfolio will include lengths from 7 metres to 18 metres, suitable for staff transport, city and intercity transport, and school transport. For trucks, we are starting with 55-tonne capacity tractor-trailers, considered one of the most challenging categories from a vehicle design standpoint. We plan to expand in the coming period into tippers and fixed-body dumpers as well. Through AMPSTAR, we aim to bring world-class buses and trucks to Indian roads."
