JSW Combat PHEV to launch in India by year end with 90 km electric range
JSW Motor is preparing to launch its Combat SUV in India before the end of 2026, its first independent SUV in the country.
Strong buzz has begun in the Indian market around JSW Motor's upcoming Combat SUV. It has emerged that the company is preparing to launch this 5-seater SUV in India before the end of 2026. If this happens, it could mark the company's first independent SUV entry in India. The Combat is said to be based on the Jetour T2 sold in overseas markets, and is expected to arrive in India in a plug-in hybrid, or PHEV, version. The SUV could be priced above Rs 30 lakh.
On the inside, the Combat is expected to get a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It may come with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12-speaker audio system, ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof. The front seats may also get electric adjustment and ventilation. This suggests the SUV is being designed with premium customers in mind.
In terms of design, like the Jetour T2, the Combat could get a boxy, upright SUV look. LED headlamps, roof rails and 20-inch alloy wheels will add to its appeal. The SUV will be built on a monocoque platform. On the powertrain front, it may get a 1.5-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine paired with 2 electric motors. It is expected to have an 18.4 kWh battery pack and an electric-only range of around 90 km.
The globally sold Jetour T2 PHEV uses a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission, producing around 360 hp of power and 610 Nm of torque. The India-spec Combat could offer similar performance. It is also expected to get a 360-degree camera, a 540-degree view, adaptive cruise control and other ADAS driver assistance features.
JSW currently operates a joint venture with MG, but the company is also expanding as its own separate automobile brand. It is reported that the company is working on Chery-based PHEV, range-extender, strong hybrid and fully electric vehicles for India. The launch of the JSW Combat could prove significant for the company's future journey in the Indian SUV market.
