MLA Kishor Jorgewar met Minister Atul Save in Mumbai and sought administrative approval and Rs 27.91 crore for separate boys' and girls' hostels in Chandrapur.

MLA Kishor Jorgewar has demanded administrative approval for a proposal to build government hostels in Chandrapur, and sanction of funds for it. He met Minister Atul Save at Mantralaya in Mumbai for the purpose. Save is the state's Minister for Other Backward Bahujan Welfare, Dairy Development, Non-Conventional Energy and Welfare of the Differently Abled.

Jorgewar has taken the initiative so that Other Backward Class students in Chandrapur district get good education and also have a safe place to stay. Two separate government hostels are to be built in Chandrapur, one for boys and one for girls. Each hostel will house 100 students. In his meeting with Save, he asked that the proposal be given administrative approval at once and the required funds be sanctioned.

Both hostels are proposed under the Babu Jagjivan Ram Chhatra Awas Yojana. The question of land has reportedly already been settled. The government has earlier approved 1.5 acres for the boys' hostel and 1.5 acres for the girls' hostel, a total of 3 acres, in the Civil Lines area of Chandrapur.

Preparations for construction have also progressed. The Public Works Department has prepared the necessary estimates for both buildings, along with technical sanction. Land has thus been secured and the technical process is complete. Only the decision on administrative approval and sanction of funds remains.

Jorgewar said that Rs 27.91 crore will be needed to build the two hostels together. Of this, Rs 13.97 crore is expected to be spent on the girls' hostel and Rs 13.94 crore on the boys' hostel. If the funds are sanctioned, the way will be clear to build two separate government hostels, each with a capacity of 100, for OBC students in Chandrapur city.

Many students of the district from Other Backward Classes, Vimukta Jatis, Nomadic Tribes and Special Backward Categories come to Chandrapur city for higher education. Because of their financial circumstances, they face difficulties with accommodation and other facilities. For students coming from rural and remote areas, safe accommodation is important for their academic progress. Separate government hostels for boys and girls would give these students great support.

Keeping in mind the students' educational interests and the importance of the facilities they receive, Jorgewar firmly urged Minister Save to grant administrative approval without delay and sanction the Rs 27.91 crore needed for construction. He also demanded that the department concerned be directed to act at once.
